When we perform root canals at our office in Statesville, NC, patient comfort is our first priority.
When you hear the word “root canal,” you may immediately start to panic. However, at Kotis Family Dentistry, we strongly encourage you to keep in mind that root canals are nothing to be afraid of. They are a routine, relatively painless procedure.
A root canal is generally used to save or repair a tooth that has become infected. You may need a root canal if one of your teeth:
- Causes you to experience immense pain whenever you apply pressure to it
- Has become abnormally sensitive to heat or cold
- Has started to darken in color
When we perform root canals at our office in Statesville, North Carolina, we usually use a local anesthetic to numb the area near the infected tooth. We then drill a small hole in the tooth and remove any debris or decayed nerve tissue from inside of it. After the tooth has been thoroughly cleaned, we seal it. In some situations, we may need to perform further restoration work in order to preserve the affected tooth.
After the root canal, the area near the surrounding tooth may feel more sensitive than normal. However, this sensation shouldn’t last for more than a few days.
If you have any questions about root canals or want to know more about what we do to make them as comfortable as possible for our patients, reach out to us at Kotis Family Dentistry today. We are more than happy to address your concerns and answer your questions.
